Our Story

DAI was formed in 2002 as part of both the national and the State of Kansas' Main Street programs.  Since then the organization has grown to focus on promoting what makes Downtown Augusta a unique and important part of the community.

Many undertakings have fallen at the feet of our board over the years including: facilitating many small business loans and grants, facilitating improvement loans, the City Carnival, Seasonal decorations and upkeep, many building and design consultations, the addition of recreation choices for all ages, and throughout the years Millions in renovation.

During 2020, we restructured our board and adapted the purpose and structure of DAI / Mainstreet Augusta to meet the changing needs of our community.  Rising to the Occasion, our Small Business Liaison Jayme Chaplain provided business coaching and mentoring, to ADD businesses during an unprecedented time of economic downturn.  Becoming a resource for struggling businesses especially in the Downtown district became very serious business and the result was a small business community that ended the pandemic year growing and holding our heads higher than ever.  We meet the challenge of 2021 with more resources than ever and a fire burning strong to continue to improve and preserve Main Street Augusta.
